Planet Conservatories Don’t Need Planning Permission

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

If you have been looking at conservatory or orangery designs – you may not be aware of the fact that conservatories and orangeries from Planet Conservatories are easier to build now than ever. Until a few years ago planning permission was necessary and as any homeowner knows, involving your local council in any form of paperwork is a long winded affair.

Today local authorities do not require planning permission for installing a conservatory or orangery to your home in the UK. There are certain conditions that do apply, however overall conservatories & orangeries do not need planning permission if you plan that your conservatory or orangery does not cover more than fifty percent of the land that the home occupies.

  • You do not intend to build the conservatory or orangery on the same side of the house that fronts a highway. This rule applies to conservatories on the front back and side, you cannot build one on a side of the house that is parallel to a road.
  • You cannot build any part of the conservatory or orangery higher than the existing highest point on your roof – this regulation regarding the height of the conservatory can only be important on a bungalow.
  • If you are building a conservatory or orangery solely on the rear of the house than it can only extend beyond the outer wall by three meters if the house is attached to another. However if you have a detached house then the conservatory can be four meters.
  • Side conservatory or orangeries can be built up to four meters high and a width of no more than half the width of the original house width. Unless of course the side fronts a highway and then you cannot build one at all.
  • The roof height can only be to the first storey if you have more than one story.
  • The conservatory or orangery must be closed in it cannot have any other extraneous extensions such as a conservatory balcony or a conservatory verandah. Simply put your conservatory can only be one structure with no conservatory extensions.
  • Finally designated land cannot have a rear conservatory or orangery of more than one storey. Cladding cannot be used and side conservatories are forbidden. Designated land means areas of natural beauty such as the Norfolk broads, conservation areas, national parks and world heritage sites.

Choose A Contemporary Orangery Design At Planet Conservatories

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

The North West is not always renowned for getting the best of weather, but when it does you need to make the most of it. There is so much lovely scenery in the region and some of you may be lucky enough to have a great backdrop at your home. If you do then you should take advantage of it, especially on those rare sunny days during the summer months. The ideal place from where you can admire any views at the back of your home is from the comfort of an orangery.

Orangeries in the North West are believed by many to be a new and growing type of construction, a kind of beefed up version of the traditional conservatory. But, orangeries have actually been around for years and were previously used more as an area for growing plants and flowers. Like conservatories in the North West, many people have woken up to the usefulness of the orangery and are increasingly having them installed in their homes as a way of extending the size of their property.

They are also made up of less glass than a conservatory, so if you are worried that it will get too hot in the summer, then think again as the double glazing that is put inside an orangery is energy efficient and will keep it cool when necessary. In the unlikely event that it does get too warm, then you could install some blinds onto the windows which will keep out the glare and heat of the sun. If you fancy keeping your feet warm during the winter, heated flooring can be put down.

If you are currently considering buying Carnforth windows, then you are also urged to look into an orangery as there is no finer way of extending your home.

Going Against The Grain for Double Glazing & Conservatories

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

With conservatory sales running at perhaps half of some predictions made just three to four years ago, are Conservatory Outlet’s claims of substantial sales and enquiry increases to be taken with a pinch of salt? Conservatory Magazine writer Michael Oxted investigates.

“March has been a record month for conservatories and double glazing, the best we have ever had.”

How many companies in the conservatories and double glazing market can say that, truthfully? So when Matthew Glover, managing director of Conservatory Outlet made the claim, was I hearing yet another double glazing salesman’s extravagant verbiage?

Matthew Glover does not fit the image of the archetypal double glazing salesman. In fact he strikes one as being unassuming, thoughtful and even cerebral, the instinct to trust this man coming out strongly. So what does he have to back up his claims, which in fairness come from Matthew as being simply conversation rather than any ‘sell’.

“Our sales are up by 25.5% for quarter 1 compared to a similar period last year,” explains Matthew. “Granted it was a poor period generally but compared to 2008, we were ahead by 47% so we are seeing consistent year on year growth.

“But March has been a record month for us; the sales leads generated through our web sites grew by 41% and our conversion rate has been excellent too; homeowners appear to be actively looking. This growth is due to retail sales through our network showrooms.”

The Internet is a key part of Conservatory Outlet’s marketing support offer for its dealers which is regarded as one of the best in the business, including as it does a full Internet provision through its own web site in addition to custom web sites for its dealers. Search engine optimisation is the key however, with continuous activity taking place to ensure Conservatory Outlet and its dealers are continually at the top of all the major search engines, usually topping all of the big national retailers. Television and other advertising support is provided, together with high quality lifestyle brochures and advertisements.

However, appointed dealers must bring something to the party, explains Matthew: “A Conservatory Outlet dealer must show us that they understand retail and are enthusiastic and ambitious. A showroom is essential as is a commitment to undertaking marketing to complement what we do for them. We provide the framework for this also however.”

Sales have grown organically and are already being compounded by a drive for new dealers to spread the reach of Conservatory Outlet nationally: “Frankly we are wasting leads as our core internet activity reaches all corners of the UK. Our latest dealer, Housemaster based in Hertfordshire, enjoyed a huge number of fresh sales leads when he joined us earlier this year and we have many other areas where we can pass on the best leads available.”

I believe him: Matthew is a very credible operator and his command of how to market and sell conservatories is very impressive, as his stats – but more importantly sales – continue to prove.

Come Visit A Conservatory Outlet Showroom Near You

Conservatory Outlet is composed of several dealerships across the UK and has gained a reputation as one of the most respected and trusted conservatory installers in the country. We pride ourselves on providing a personalised service for each of our customers, listening to their needs and affording them our advice so that the home improvement they choose is designed and crafted to their taste.

All our dealerships have experienced design consultants on hand who will guide you through the whole buying and installation process and will provide any support you may require. All our products are put together at our 5,000 sq ft factory in Wakefield using the finest of materials and constructed by a highly qualified team of experts. So confident are we in the work that goes into each of our products that we commonly offer a ten year guarantee on them in the unlikely situation that they fail or are broken.

Our most popular product is our range of conservatories as many people are now turning to them when they are restricted for room within the home, rather than having to go through the rigmarole of moving property. They can also be a great place where you can spend time with friends and family throughout the year and can potentially be turned into whatever kind of living area you require.

The modern day equivalent of the conservatory is the orangery. Although a slightly more expensive investment than a conservatory, orangeries are seen as being the most stylish way of extending a home due to their mainly brick built exterior. Installing a set of French doors onto your orangery can make it an even more fashionable proposition.

Check out our website for a full list of dealerships around the UK and find the showroom nearest to your home so you can and admire all our quality products for yourself.

Conservatory Prices Testimonial

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

The following is a customer testimonial after they had Conservatory installed with Conservatory Outlet.

Dear Sir/Madam,

You recently installed a Conservatory for us, to our home in Athersley.

picture-018

We have been to you before for our uPVC Windows and you did a good job, so we decided to come back for a conservatory.

The fitters did a very good job, they were very polite and went about their job with no fuss, we also felt very comfortable trusting them with everything.

The design program you used also helped us see what our design would look like and we made a few adjustments and re-drew it a few times until we had something which my partner and I both really liked to look of.

the Conservatory Pricing you did, using the spreadsheet design was also very good as it automatically adjusted the price when we added or removed anything.

Thank you again for our new Conservatory, it looks great and our neighbours are very jealous.

Mr and Mrs Tanert,
Athersley.

Conservatory Cost Wales

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

The following is a customer testimonial (Conservatory Cost Wales) from a customer who recently bought a conservatory with Mid Wales Windows.

Dear Sir/Madam,

My wife and I live in Powys in Wales. Recently we were thinking of either moving or adding a Conservatory to our home.

picture-021

However in this time, it would have been very hard to have sold our house, so we decided that adding an extension was the correct choice. When we do come to sell, it will also add to the value of our home as well and before then we can enjoy it, so we see it as a sound investment.

We chose Mid Wales Windows, after being recommended to you by someone at work, and requested a quote online. We received a follow up call and the customer service was to a very high standard, the staff didn’t seem pushy or pressure us in to any decisions whatsoever. Instead we arranged a meeting time and they came over and drew up some Conservatory Specifications and a CAD design which showed us what it would look like when complete.

The way the sales staff priced the conservatory using the spreadsheet was very impressive also. Any addition was just updated on the spreadsheet and the price was automatically updated.

Our finished Bespoke Conservatory looks great and we’re very happy to have done business with you.

Yours Sincerely,
C. Sharpe,
Wales.

Tilt and turn windows & victorian conservatory, Beeston, West Yorkshire

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Dear Sir/Madam at Conservatory Outlet,

Following the completion by Conservatory Outlet of our lovely uPVC Victorian conservatory last year, I am writing again to express our satisfaction with the new tilt and turn windows and replacements fascia boards recently added. The tilt and turn window price was very competitive and after talking to you on the phone, we knew we’d made the right choice

The job was carried out efficiently despite poor weather conditions, including wind and rain – the final result was most pleasing. The builders worked incredibly hard for three full days.

Your workmen were excellent and were very efficient when it came to clearing the inevitable mess. We have already recommended you to our neighbours who have ordered one of your orangeries, so we’ll be interested to see how nice that looks. Can you thank Jason for all of his help he gave us when we were choosing our roofline as well.

Thank you once again and we wish you every success in the future.

Mr and Mrs Saute
Beeston
West Yorkshire
